No More Blog Posts

It has been nearly 18 months since I last made a post on this blog, and I just thought I should do a farewell post to say that this blog will not be added to anymore. I enjoyed doing it for the 7 years that it has covered, and while I am still very much involved in picture framing, I simply lack the time or interest to keep the blog posts going. Thanks to everyone who visited the blog over the years, I hope you found something interesting here to do with picture framing and frames.

I will of course leave the blog on online, (sorry that there are some expired image links if you go further back through the posts) and I hope some new visitors will gain some worthwhile insight into the wonderful world of picture framing and antique frames within these posts!

Here are a few of my favourite antique frames that have come through the workshop recently...

Some Frames Seen in Tate Britain Gallery.

I recently spent an enjoyable couple of hours at the Tate Britain Gallery, where they have some wonderful paintings and frames. It was interesting to see the variation in frame conditions throughout the collection, noticeably the relatively bright gilding on some restored and replica frames. A good example is the two Turner frames immediately above this text, the same profile and ornament, hanging on the same wall, but with quite different finishes and patina.

Here are a few frames that I saw recently in Leamington Spa Art Gallery. They have a nice little collection with some interesting frames.

Frame Labels

A few examples of some frame labels that I've had through the workshop recently. A photo album of all the labels I have collected over the years, as well as the many labels from various contributors to the Picture Frame Labels blog started by Bronislaus Janulis, can be seen on my Facebook page:

20th Century Carved Frames

A couple of mid 20th century carved frames, one a classic Montparnasse frame with wash/decape finish, the other with crude/bold carving and heavily distressed gilded finish.
